New Level Personal Training Yarraville trainers Callum and Jacqui demonstrate how to stretch your calves using a Foam Roller. The Foam Roller is a great piece of equipment to target trigger points in your muscles and alleviate muscles tightness and soreness.

This particular stretch is best done with a partner so they can apply pressure during the stretch which helps for a deeper stretch. This can be done without a partner but the stretch is not quite as intense.

Tip! To increase the stretch when performing this solo, you can lift your body off the ground which helps produce some downward pressure onto the roller.

If you are interested in using the Foam Roller at your next session, simply ask your trainer.

New Level Personal Training Lead Trainer Simon demonstrates how to get a full body workout using only one piece of equipment… “The Torsonator!”

The Torsonator although simple in design provides many exercise options and has the versatility to work the whole body as well as benefit the cardiovascular system.

It must be said that although the Torsonator is simple in design, it still requires correct technique when performing the exercises demonstrated by Simon. If you have no experience with this piece of equipment just ask your trainer for some assistance and guidance before trying to emulate Simon’s demo.

Any questions, just ask one of our happy trainers for help! Good luck guys!

Simon was in the cooking industry for 10 years and decided to make a career change to Personal Training. His former career as a chef gives him a great advantage when designing nutrition plans for his clients. Simon knows what works and what doesn’t, how to prepare food quickly, and has lots of tips for cooking the healthy way!

New Level Personal Training founder Trav Bell talks to Simon in the video above about some of the ‘most asked’ questions from clients about nutrition, and along the way Simon reveals some handy cooking advice.

Some of the key points are:

Prepare your lunch and snacks the night before so you are not rushed in the morning and decide to just buy your lunch.

Prepare some soups (especially during winter) on the weekend and put them the freezer in containers ready to go when you need them.

Use the palm of your hand as a guide for the correct portion of the ‘protein’ in your meal. eg: Red Meat, Fish, Chicken.

When cooking on a pan, get the surface really HOT first. This helps seal the food quickly and hold in the nutrients.

A light spray of Extra Virgin Olive Oil on pan is better than dripping it in oil.

Sealing your chicken breast in a pan first then allowing it to continue cooking in the oven is a good way of cooking the chicken without frying it in oil.

Poaching and steaming are healthy cooking techniques that need to be mastered.

Try not to overcook your vegetables. Keep them crisp. Overcooking them will release too much of their goodness.

Simon will be back with some more cooking and nutrition tips in future videos. If you have any questions you would like to ask him, just comment below this post or simple call 1300 NEWLEVEL.

Personally, I think in the next video he should wear a ‘Chef’s Hat’, be in the kitchen and give us a ‘Master Class’… What do you think?

New Level Personal Trainer Callum Pitts from Yarraville demonstrates how using a Foam Roller before your session can release upper back tension and increase mobility. Upper back tension is common amongst people that sit at a desk all day at work. If the core muscles and upper back muscles such as the rhomboids are not developed enough, being seated for 8 hours 5 days a week can lead to postural issues.

New Level Personal Training clients with back tightness have been using the Foam Roller with their trainer to release some of the tension. As demonstrated in the video clip above the Foam Roller is simply positioned around the Thoracic Spine (upper-middle back) while lying on your back on the floor with your knees up and hands behind your head supporting your neck.

By simply taking a deep breath in and then exhaling slowly as you carefully stretch your back by leaning back over the Foam Roller you should feel a nice stretch and the muscles release through the problem area.

The Foam Roller is also used by the New Level trainers for releasing muscle tightness in the calves and the ITB. These areas are common problem spots for runners and the Foam Roller helps fix and prevent further tightness and possible injury.

If you would like to learn more about the benefits of the Foam Roller or would like to speak to a New Level trainer about your own Health and Fitness goals, please call 1300 NEWLEVEL or fill in our FREE Session offer on this website.

At New Level Personal Training we try to add value to our service by providing videos that our clients and others in the community can watch for further health and fitness information.

Our videos range from:
– ‘How To Videos’ for all types of exercises, explaining how to perform them correctly and safely.
– Nutrition advice
– Homework workouts, each exercise is demonstrated to avoid confusion.
– Business update videos including recent renovations, new services and equipment.
– Client testimonials
– Sample workouts.

The plan is to create these videos each week so people can benefit from them, however we only started this about 1 month ago and it is fair to say we are still a little shaky in front of camera. We recently tried to film a 30 second welcome video for this website and it took us TOO MANY takes! We have decided to put a few together in a ‘Blooper Video’ for you to view. Feel free to laugh at us, we certainly are, as we realise we are a long way off Hollywood!!

We plan on getting better in front of the camera as we are committed to producing a minimum of 1 new video each week (practice makes perfect)!

If you have any suggestions on what type of information or demonstrations you would like to see in our videos, feel free to contact us on 1300 NEWLEVEL or comment below this post. We welcome all ideas as we go towards adding value and educating our community.

We hope you enjoy this light hearted Bloopers Video, and please don’t take offence from ‘The Bird’ at the beginning, it was directed at the camera man!!!

Power Bands are a resistance training tool that are very versatile and can be used for a large range of exercises including assisted chin ups, power lifting, stretching and explosive movement training.

A Power Band just looks like a big elastic band and it is its elasticity that gives that band the ability to provide resistance or in some cases assistance to your chosen exercise.

In the video above Callum and Paul demonstrate how the Power Band can assist you complete a full wide grip chin up. In the example Paul is using a very strong thick Power Band that is giving him a large amount of assistance. As Paul gets stronger he can progress by using Power Bands with less tension, until he is able to complete the chin ups without assistance.

At New Level the Power Bands have been fantastic for clients who have come into our studio to complete one of their ‘homework’ sessions as they can still incorporate chin ups into their session.

Kettlebells are a Russian creation that look like a cannonball with a handle. They are made from cast iron. The handle of the Kettlebell allows it to be easily lifted from the ground and manouvered through technical exercises.

There are a range of exercises that utilize the Kettlebell and one of the most dynamic and effective exercises is the Kettlebell Swing. The Kettlebell Swing is a compound exercise that works the whole body with an emphasis on the quads, gluets, hamstrings and core.

Of course as with most exercises there is a progression from a beginner technique to a more technical technique which will challenge even the more experienced exerciser.

At New Level Personal Training we incorporate Kettlebells into our workout if relevant to the clients goals as it is a great way to add some variety into sessions. As most Kettlebell exercises are multi-joint and multi-muscle (compound) we can achieve effective efficient workouts in minimal time!

New equipment including two new benches, olympic barbell, torsonator and power bands.

A new studio layout providing more floor space and feng shui!!!

A couple of Fridays ago everyone (trainers and staff) held a much needed working bee. Over a 6 hour period we managed to paint the studio and rip up the old carpet. It was a fantastic way to spend a Friday afternoon and everyone got a great sense of achievement at the end of the day when we stood back and admired our work!

With all the recent changes to the studio, the atmosphere of the studio is at an all time high. The trainers are loving the new equipment and the clients are all commenting on what a big difference the changes have made to the studio and their motivation to come and train!
